We are currently seeking an individual to join the Quantitative Equity Research team as Quantitative Equity Analyst. The team is responsible for designing the foundations of our quantitative equity proposition. They deliver model portfolios and are responsible for developing insights around model-driven investments as well as for the development of portfolio construction tools and proprietary risk models.

The role holder will undertake research into the investment process in Equities with a view to make them more robust and consistent. The person will be expected to assist improve and maintain the core research framework and related tools, conducting rigorous quantitative research with emphasis on portfolio optimization, risk modelling and signal research.

In this role, you will:

  • Contribute to the scientific design and development of the global quantitative equity research team systems, research notes and products.
  • Research and develop new analytic solutions and methods to directly improve firm’s suite of products and services.
  • Conduct explanatory analysis on ESG / climate data and alternative data sources.
  • Work closely with data engineers and technology team to build out end to end solutions.
  • Author and prepare presentations, research reports and white papers to explain concepts and communicate findings with stakeholders as necessary in simple language
  • Develop methods for data visualization and explore machine learning techniques in portfolio construction
Requirements

To be successful in the role, you should meet the following requirements:

  • An advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in mathematical / scientific discipline (Engineering, Computer Science, Econometrics etc.) is essential for this role
  • A strong understanding of mathematics and statistics with emphasis in linear algebra, probability theory, regression analysis and optimization.
  • Strong programming skills preferably in R (otherwise experience in MATLAB or Python will be considered)
  • Prior experience of performing on an in-depth research project, examining real-world data
  • Experience of researching and building portfolio optimization applications with deep knowledge of the underlying algorithms would be desirable
  • Some experience of researching and building risk modelling applications with focus on covariance estimation techniques would be desirable
  • Ability to think independently and creatively approach data analysis and communicate complex ideas clearly

This is a Hybrid working role with the base location as Birmingham. The successful candidate will have to have the ability to commute to this location.
